Im " The New Triumph Bonneville Forum " ist ein interessanten Thread ueber die Unterschieden im Gill Zuendbox. Thread wurde gestartet von Peter Jenks.

Some may remember about 6 months ago I fitted camshafts from a 2002 790cc Bonneville into my 2004 865cc Thruxton: I’d expected the more “sporting” cam characteristics would result in more power and torque. I was disappointed that the result was no significant change.
There were many theories as to why, but no conclusions. So I stopped playing and got on with riding.
Recently, talking with Mike Cripps (Pieman) I discovered that thanks to some clever software in his laptop he had the ability to “see” into the Gill Igniter unit and to alter the rev limit. He had already discovered that the unit has 5 different ignition/rpm maps, covering the complete range from zero to full throttle, as set by the TPS device. He has detailed the settings for the 790. Today he came over and downloaded the settings from my 865 Igniter.
Are they different? Very much so! He is going to go off and compare the maps and relate them to cam timing.
On the basis that simplistic logic says the 790 cams might work better with a 790 igniter program set we swapped igniter units.
Result: my Thruxton, with its rev limit set to 8500 rpm goes like the wind: Mikes Bonnie with my 865 unit ran like a sick pig. Mike got my bike up to 130 mph indicated and it was still pulling.
I need a 790cc Igniter so I can go back to the dynamometer and see if what seems like a very quick bike is quicker than it was when last measured. For some reason Mike didn’t want to keep mine!! I’ll be looking on e-bay and talking to breakers!!
So it seems that changing the cams requires a new matching set of ignition maps. Only Triumph and Gill can, at the moment, do this. But Mike’s tame software engineer is confident that he will be able to provide with a program that will allow Mike to offer a bespoke re-mapping service, for all 5 maps. This is important as the Triumph maps are optimised for things like fuel efficiency and pollution control: so totally new maps, could open up a few new tuning opportunities.
I'm quite excited by all this.
